Community momentum has been building to protect a 345-acre tract of forested land on the side of Mount Maxwell (Hwumet’utsum) in order to ensure it is preserved for generations to come. Community volunteers on Salt Spring Island have formed a working group to organize stakeholders throughout the community in order to ensure this property is protected in perpetuity and public and indigenous access is still permitted on this land. We are working to garner support from the CRD, to explore protection and trail-use options.
Salt Spring Solutions has been working with other partners to protect and open up this important property. You can learn more on the dedicated campaign website.
